Step 1: Effect Change

Before we do anything to lose weight, we need to get our mindset right.

Human beings are, on the whole, inherently lazy. We seek the path of least resistance nearly all the time (well until you fall in love with hill climbing on the bike and then it’s flipped – more pain always)!

This makes it incredibly difficult to lose weight and eat properly, particularly in this day and age. Too busy. Too tired. Kids. Too this. Too that.

I’m here to tell you that’s all rubbish. There is NOTHING stopping you getting healthy if you want it enough. And that’s the key.

You need to stop viewing this as something you “have” to do, and view it in two ways: something you “must” do (to avoid health issues) and something you want to do.

Justifying the avoidance of a heart attack is easy. Justifying getting your butt out and getting sweaty is a bit harder.

So, here’s my question. What exactly is it you don’t like about exercise and eating well? Do you get a sense of dread over the thought of running? That’s cool. You need to be kinda mental to LOVE running. Riding though? Super fun. This is why I focus on cycling. It’s much easier, you can ride with kids or a partner, and you can put some serious time into it without fatiguing.

So, my homework for you is to really sit down and think about this. Get a bike out, go for a ride on a warm sunny day, maybe out in the bush or by the beach. Have a coffee. Enjoy being outside. It’s not a chore, it’s fun!

Once you conquer the exercise-as-chore mindset and reframe it as exercise-as-fun, you’re halfway there, as once you have motivation and want to be outdoors, it’s easy!

The next key is diet. This is really easy, read this.

So, go check out the ride planner, which uses Google Maps and INCLUDES bike paths, and get out there!
